National Volunteer Week was established in 1974 to recognize and celebrate the efforts of volunteers across the country. AHVRP expands upon National Volunteer Week with National Health Care Volunteer Week, a time to honor and thank hospital volunteers for their commitment to patient care and their compassion toward patients, staff and the community. Over time, the original emphasis on celebration has evolved into a nationwide effort to urge people to get out and volunteer in their communities!
